Module 2

What an LLM is

Module 2 of 6, designed for short phone-friendly study sessions.

5 minute chunk plain language easy to review

The simple version

LLM stands for large language model. An LLM is a type of AI system that works with language patterns. When you give it a prompt, it generates a response based on patterns it learned from training.

What LLMs do well

  • drafting
  • summarizing
  • rewriting
  • organizing ideas
  • explaining information in simpler language

What LLMs do poorly

LLMs can state false things confidently, invent details, miss context, oversimplify, and sound more certain than they should. A strong answer is not always a correct answer.

Common mistake

Smooth wording is not proof of accuracy. Treat LLM output like a helpful first draft that still needs review.

Quick check

AAn LLM is a search engine that only finds facts.
BAn LLM is a language system that generates responses from patterns in text.
CAn LLM is always correct if it sounds confident.
